This second album on Sinatra's own label features some of Billy May's most imaginative and hard-swinging charts. Sinatra pulls out all of the stops and sings with unfettered abandon throughout the album and takes the travel theme originated on Come Fly With Me to unparalled heights on a couple of numbers. This may not be one of his greatest albums, but it's a joy to listen to someone who seems to be having a ball doing what he does best.
In what was one of the first instances of a dispute over intellectual property,
Capitol Records claimed the title Swing Along With Me
was too similar to
his Capitol album entitled Come Swing With Me
and forced Reprise to
retitle the album Sinatra Swings.
On the CD release, both titles appear
on the cover.
Another treat on the 20-bit remastered version of the CD is the restoration
of the long version of Granada
with the inclusion of an instrumental
solo following the phrase ...romantic and gay.
Typical of Sinatra's frenetic work pace, this album was recorded over the course of three nights in 1961: May 18, 19, and 13.
