Eastern IOwa Observatory and Learning Center

The Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center is operated at by the Cedar Amateur Astronomers, Inc. and located at Palisades-Dows Nature Conservatory in conjunction with the Linn County Conservation Department. To reach the observing facility from the Iowa City area, take Highway 1 heading northeast out of Iowa City and continue through Solon towards Mount Vernon.

A brown sign indicating Palisades-Dows Observatory is located on the right side of the road at the intersection of Highway 1 and Ivanhoe Road just before crossing the Cedar River. The intersection is approximately 15 miles from Iowa City.

Turn left on to Ivanhoe Road and continue past several farm houses (the dirt road has numerous twists and turns). The observing site is located in a clear area at the south edge of the Palisades-Dows Conservatory and is on the right side of Ivanhoe Road. The entrance to the parking area is marked with a blue address sign numbered 1365.
